Recruitment is open for London-Loughborough Centre for Doctoral Research in Energy Demand studentships for the 2013/14 academic year, with a further 2 fully funded studentships available at UCL!

For 2013-14, the UCL Energy Institute is offering 2 further fully funded studentships (enhanced stipend of approx. £17,000 per annum tax free plus UK/EU fees) to eligible applicants, to be part of a total CDT year group of 6 students at UCL.

Research in energy demand is critical to address the challenges posed by climate change. The recognition that our current life-style is unsustainable will be a key driver for research and innovation for many years to come. The sector needs high quality PhD qualified graduates, drawn from a range of different 1st degree disciplines: note that direct experience and detailed knowledge of energy and buildings is not an entry requirement. Reducing energy use and associated carbon emissions from the built environment is essential, but is a big task and will take place over many years. Graduates in this complex and exciting field are in high demand.

“In my current role I am acutely aware of the global need for energy researchers who have in-depth knowledge of energy demand reduction but also a broader knowledge of the whole energy system. UCL and Loughborough University are internationally leading universities which have research strengths across the full range of disciplines required to tackle these problems and train the next generation of researchers and leaders for the energy industry.” – Pascal Terrien, EDF, Chair, LoLo CDT Advisory Board. 2009-2012

Our centre is dedicated to addressing the challenge of climate change and this should be reflected in the projects undertaken by our successful applicants.

Applications are invited from eligible graduates with a good first degree (1st or 2:1) in one of the following areas: Physical sciences; Statistics;Mathematics or Engineering. Candidates with good degrees in related subjects e.g. Economics, Architecture and the Social sciences will also be considered. All candidates will need to demonstrate a basic understanding of the physics of energy demand.

Visit the Join Us pages of the London-Loughborough Centre website for more information on how to apply! Deadline for applications Thursday 6 June 2013 15.00 BST. Interviews will be held the week commencing 24 June 2013.

We also welcome applications for study for the MRes in Energy Demand Studies at UCL as a standalone one year programme (self-funded).
