Biography

Vicki has been a doctoral researcher in LoLo at Loughborough University for three years and is currently writing up her doctoral thesis. Her research is focussed on making solid wall houses more energy efficient through the use of internal wall insulation, while providing year-round comfort for occupants; the details of the project can be found in the project page W4LP8. Prior to this she completed the Master of Research in Energy Demand Studies. In her master’s degree Vicki did research into the energy consumption and heating patterns in modular built student halls of residence; the details of the project can be found in the project page W4LP3.

Before joining LoLo Vicki worked as a Design Engineer for DS Smith, designing new products and producing prototypes for clients. Her role also focussed on ensuring the suitability of designs for manufacture, procuring tools and instructing the onsite factory of how to create the finished product. Her background is as a technologist, graduating in 2011 from Loughborough University with a degree in Product Design Technology BSc.

Vicki’s research interests are centred on domestic buildings, in particular those in need of renovation to make them more energy efficient. She is interested more specifically in materials, manufacture and design of building components; overheating in energy efficient dwellings; collection and analysis of measurements of dwellings; and the improvement of simple modelling techniques (e.g SAP) to inform decision making.

Outside of building research Vicki is interested in sustainability, politics, public engagement, science …and food.
