Biography

After 20 years in industry initially in lamp and luminaire development before progressing to lighting application I joined the Bartlett in 1996 as a Research Fellow. I have worked on a number of projects covering lighting simulation, the construction of a variable luminance artificial sky with integral sun and studying the impact of good urban lighting. In 2003 I became a lecturer an have since supervised a number of research projects.I have always been active in professional associations in the area of lighting. I recent years I have been president of the Society of Light and Lighting and a Director of the International Association of Lighting designers. I am a Fellow of both the Society of Light and Lighting and the Institution of Lighting Professionals

Research Summary

I am interested in the whole area of lighting, ranging from visual science through lamp physics, photometry though to appearance of lit spaces. I have been active in research in the areas of street lighting, lighting in schools and the modelling of both daylight and electric light.
