LoLo videos are breath of fresh air

The end of June saw the return of the LoLo annual summer event in Cambridge. Like last year, student teams were challenged to make a short video – this time with the aim of explaining the importance of ventilation in buildings. With today’s software, simple videos are a breeze to make and can be a really effective way getting ideas across in an entertaining way.

Only three teams were in the offing this time around. The first video,Breathless by Arash Beizaee, Mike Fell, Sofie Pelsmakers and Vicki Tink to be shown at the end-of-event wrap-up highlighted the role of ventilation in removing bad odours in office buildings (by way of Psycho).

Next up was Ventilate to Educate by Alexandros Adam, Ozlem Duran, Argyris Oraiopoulos, Kate Simpson and David Veitch, a cute plasticine animation showed how important fresh air can be in helping people to concentrate, particularly in schools.

The final video, the Curse of Vent-Hell-ation by Joynal Abedin, Carrie Behar, Sven Hallin, Selin Yilmaz and Sam Stamp used whiteboard sketching to demonstrate the grave problems that can arise when ventilation isn’t properly considered in a building project.

A panel of industry experts decided (after heated debate) that the final video had emerged on top – congratulations to the Curse of Vent-hell-ation team!
