The progress report of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) published on 9 July 2014 explores the potential impact of climate change on well-being and economy.

The report uses evidence from the journal paper “National Survey of Summertime Temperatures and Overheating Risk in English Homes” by LoLo CDT student Arash Beizaee on the risk of overheating in English homes. The CCC’s report mentioned that there are only very few studies that directly measured internal temperatures of homes across the country. It referred to some of the findings of the paper on the potential overheating risk in living rooms and bedrooms of different house types and age bands and reported those at the highest overheating risk.

The paper was published in 2013 in the Journal of Building and Environment and was based on Arash’s MRes dissertation.

CDT director at Loughborough University, Professor Kevin Lomas comments: “This is an example of academic work having the highest possible impact. The ‘pain’ of writing and rewriting is necessary if one is to be read by those that can make academic work ‘matter’”.
